As part of your initial purchase, you receive one year of free updates and access to the Registered User site. At the end of that year, you may renew your maintenance agreement (see pricing details on the Sparx Systems website). If you choose not to renew, you lose access to product downloads and the Registered User site.

For this reason, we strongly recommend that you make a backup copy of your download to a permanent medium like CD ROM. This enables you to re-install at any when you have no more access to the registered area. If your access to the registered area is still valid, you find there, the latest build of any EA major release next to the latest build of the latest Enterprise Architect version.

The login credentials are included in your license mail. They are necessary to access the registered user section and are valid for 12 Months. We provide here a Web service to check your current duration.

Notice: Once you have purchased EA, if your subscription lapses, you can reinstate it at any time just by paying the renewal fee for the license type you hold. This will entitle you to download the latest version of EA. Please contact sales@sparxsystems.eu ideally included with your license Key(s) – to get a price information in a short time.

There is no difference between the trial and the full version, except the trial version will expire after 30 days and it adds an “annoying” watermark to printed diagrams and document images.
Each time you run the trial version, you are prompted to select which edition of EA to run – this allows you to see which features are offered in the Desktop, Professional and Corporate editions.

The trial version cannot be registered – only the full version. Therefore if you if you decide to purchase EA, you will need to download the full version and install it, then register it with your registration key.
You will receive registration information at the time of purchase. This will include a username and password for the registered user area of our web site, a link to download the full version and your registration key/s.

Any projects created in the trial version of EA will be fully compatible with the fully licensed versions of EA. Please ensure that you have your .EAP files in a secure location when you to remove your trial version. To open the project with a registered version of EA, go to the File | Open menu and select your project from its new location.

EA Database KnowHow

In our model we have a class C with a port P. P has a porttype assigned. So when we drag the class C onto a new diagram, and choose option “as new instance”, EA references the origin with the ClassifierID. The more, EA set’s the columns classifier_guid and PDATA3 in table t_object (Both having the GUID set as value).

If you drag class C onto a component, and choose “as part”, EA sets the PDATA3 field only. This is new to version 9.0, as in version 8.0 EA wrote the referenced Guid into PDATA2 column. But it is still different then adding it as a new instance.

So when changing the porttype on port P, synchronizing the inherited ports porttype is tricky, as – depending on which EA version you work with – PDATA2 OR PDATA3 are set.

And you also should be aware of, that these values are not cleaned up when class C or port P are deleted.

Yesterday I tried to figure out, where EA stores the ‘Feature Visibility’ information. Scopes of attributes like public or protected were easy.
Now I tried to set visibility of attributes directly (means: not depending on the scope).
I expected the information on the diagramobject itself. But I was wrong.

In my scenario I have a diagram with one class having 2 attributes (att1 & att2). I had to change the visibility of the attributes a couple of times to discover, where the information really goes to: EA stores this information in the diagram’s PDATA column.
The dedicated snippet starts with ‘SPL’.

Full entry was SPL=S_386BE4=CCBA60,3F22F0:;

Now we came so far, what does it mean?
386BE4 is the first 6 chars of the element’s guid
CCBA60 is the first 6 chars of the attribute’s object named att1
3F22F0 is the first 6 chars of the attribute’s object named att2

Everything occuring in this snippet, will not be displayed.

Via ‘Feature Visibilty’ (right-click any diagramobject), you can set visibility of operations, but also attributes by scope.
As this is done on the diagramobjects, I took a closer look on the t_diagramobjects table. It has pretty few columns, so it had to be stored in the ObjectStyle property.

If you want to hide attributes having public scope, this is, what is appended:
AttPub=0;

Please note, that setting the value to ’1′ means the same as removing the entry.

Here are the other scopes: AttPro=0;AttPri=0;AttPkg=0;

If you’re interested in operations: happy investigating!
